A microfinance organization (MFO) is an organization created to provide financial services to people that have little or no access to banking services and other formal financial institutions. The term is often used to describe organizations that focus on providing loans through the use of mobile phones in developing countries, but this description is not always accurate due to the various reasons why a given MFO may be classified as such by lenders.
